IMG_3135 - CopyOne of the things I regret about my year abroad in Japan is that our school year starts in the middle of theirs–meaning when we arrived, the clubs were done with their recruiting and if you wanted to join something, you either had to know someone already in the club, or search for it yourself (which is difficult when you’re unfamiliar with the school and don’t know what days the club meets on.)  But in the second semester, I feel very fortunate to have joined the school’s horse-back riding club.

The View from Kawaguchiko

IMG_5290Can you believe that a year ago I was looking at this view?  Sometimes, I can’t believe it myself.  It really feels like it was just a long and wonderful dream.  But in March of last year, I took a day out of my Tokyo trip to visit Lake Kawaguchi or Kawaguchiko in order to get a glimpse of the famous Mt. Fuji.

Cat Cafe 299 in Ikebukuro

IMG_5248Japan’s cat cafes are quite well known by now.  When I was visiting Tokyo last March, I’d already been in Japan for almost seven months, and I’d still not been to a cat cafe.  So when I met up with my friend Tohru, he offered to take me to one of the ones he likes in Ikebukuro, Cat Cafe 299.

Shibuya Crossing
